The good times

Sometimes... well, scratch that, most of the time I want to strangle my puppy. He's full of energy, into everything, under foot all the time and loves to be bad.

Moments like tonight make me think he's turning a corner though. Katie and I were sitting around playing the 80's version of Guitar Hero on the couch, when he snuggled up under my feet, and after reaching down to pet him, he just plopped his little head down on my feet for a nap.

He's gonna turn out to be a sweet pup in a year or so.

Labor Day 2007 Dallas Trip

dogtexas.jpg

Katie and I took a trip to Dallas this weekend, a weekend getaway from our crazy dog trip, as a matter of fact. It was also a celebration of Katie starting her new job as an admissions counselor for a local college here, as well as some good news related to my job as well.

We took the camry, dropped the pup off at the parents and headed to the Plano, TX area, where we stayed at the Radisson in Richardson, TX. We bought the bed and breakfast package, and requested one of their sleep number rooms. In retrospect, the bed and breakfast package was worth the money, but the sleep number bed was rock solid and didn't do much for my night's rest. I thought it might work wonders for my tossing and turning and constant fatigue, but I actually slept better last night (Sunday night) than I did in the hotel... which isn't very common.

While we were in town, we needed to do some shopping in order to get Katie a couple of suits for the new job and a few other business casual items. We also managed to stop by Fry's (a staple of all my Texas trips) and picked up a larger hard drive (I'm turning my desktop into a media center PC), a wireless keyboard and mouse and a few other smaller items.

There were three things that stood out during the trip. The first was JC's burger house in Allen, TX, right off I-75. I had a patty melt there that ranks among the top 10 burgers I've ever eaten. It was fantastic. The burger was made fresh and mixed with onions and cheese (jalapenos were an option I opted to avoid), and the fries were crispy and hot. It was good eating.

The other two events that stood out both happened at the Studio Movie Grill in Plano, and neither was really a surprise, but both are worth mentioning because we were/are so happy with them. The first is just the experience of the Studio Movie Grill, dinner in the theater is a great idea, and one that they implemented and execute with skill. The other was the movie itself, The Bourne Ultimatum. The movie is the third in a series of the Bourne films and was definitely the best. It was probably the best movie I've seen in a year or so.

So, that's how the weekend transpired. We got some R&R, did some shopping and a lot of driving in the camry. When we got back, Pluto was happy to see us and we were... seeing him.
