Today we took a trip down to Longview, TX to see our Grandparents. My dad and I grilled about 25 pork chops, and my mom made some salad, and mashed potatoes. We ate, traded old stories about my brother and I as kids, and talked a little about politics, and what's been going on in the family and around Longview. We all had a good time. Like I said before, in talking about Hot Springs, it's nice to just get away for a day or so.
I had to chance to finally mess around with a Tivo. My grandparents got one along with a direcTV subscription, and my Grandma loves it. I'm also enamored with it. Though I've played with DVR's before, I'd never used a set top box; only PC based DVR's. The Tivo puts those to shame.
First and foremost, it's actually a set top box. I tried hooking up a PC with a Tv Tuner installed, running MythTV, to our TV, but the situation wasn't all that great. There was no remote, no wireless keyboard, or mouse. Sure, I could've bought one, but that would've been more money, and that's something I don't have a whole lot of.
Secondly, the interface is much better, though less responsive, and the quality is great.
Lastly, the Tivo actually learning your preferences and recording shows that you might like is a great addition.
